Becki Ronen

Rebecca Jo "Becki" Ronen Walenz (born June 10, 1988) is a professional trumpet player, best known for being Miss Kansas 2009. While a student at Kansas State University, Ronen entered the pageant as Miss Flint Hills. As part of her pledge to contribute to community services, she has created a coloring book for children with the proceeds going to scholarship funds. For the talent portion of the Miss America pageant, Ronen played "Stars in a Velvety Sky" on the trumpet. No other Miss America contestant had played trumpet for their talent demonstration in 26 years.
After serving her term as Miss Kansas, Walenz graduated from Kansas State receiving a Bachelors of Music in trumpet performance. She went on to receive a Master of Music degree from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, and received a full scholarship to pursue a Doctor of Music degree at Florida State University. While still a student at Crane, Walenz released her first CD. The CD, titled Concoction was created as an aid to students for learning lesser known pieces. She has played as Principal Trumpet for the Salina Symphony Orchestra, and worked as an Adjunct Instructor at Kansas Wesleyan University.<ref name="KWU" />
