Battle of Qafë Prush

The Battle of Qafë Prush was a significant armed confrontation that occurred on May 6, 1997, near the border village of Qafë Prush involving the Kosovo Liberation Army and Yugoslav army and police forces.
Background
As tensions escalated in Kosovo during the 1990s, the Kosovo Liberation Army sought to challenge Serbian forces through organized armed resistance. On May 6, 1997, a group of KLA fighters, including Luan Haradinaj, Ramush Haradinaj, Fehmi Lladrovci, Xhevë Krasniqi-Lladrovci, Ilaz Kodra, and Ali Ahmeti, attempted to cross the border near Vlahne and proceed towards Kuzhin. This movement was part of a broader KLA strategy to secure strategic routes and supply lines. and other fighters, including Ramush Haradinaj and Fehmi Lladrovci, sustained injuries. Despite heavy artillery attacks by Serbian forces, the surviving fighters managed to retrieve Luan Haradinaj’s body and retreat to Vlahne, where he was buried.
Aftermath
The Battle of Qafë Prush underscored the risks faced by the Kosovo Liberation Army. Although the battle resulted in a tactical setback, Luan Haradinaj’s death is commemorated as a symbol of sacrifice and national unity in Kosovo.
