The Battle of Changzhi was a minor military conflict between Oirat Mongol and Ming forces as part of the larger Tumu Crisis. Fighting began in early 1449 CE and continued until the end of the Tumu Crisis. The battle started due to an invasion of the Shanxi region of China by Mongol military commander Levtai Khan. In response to this event, General Wong was sent by the Zhengtong Emperor to restore control over the region. After Levtai Khan refused to vacate Chinese territory, General Wong waged several battles with his forces during August as they fought for control over the region. Following heavy Ming losses, a preliminary ceasefire was signed in order to begin peace talks. However, accusations of adultery and sexual relations between Levtai Khan and the wife of General Wong further delayed the peace process, and resulted in an end to the ceasefire. Levtai Khan utimately defeated General Wong and continued onto the Battle of Tumu.
