Barrio Planta Project is a non-profit established to provide free access to English language education, arts, communication and job-training to the residents of San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. There is no charge to attend the program. Originally set up to serve the low-income La Planta neighborhood of San Juan del Sur, as of 2013, it had grown to include students from nearby towns. Accomplishments In 2011, Barrio la Planta Project provided funding for educational classes and programs for approximately 250 children, and other educational services to almost 200 other family members. Projects have included teaching local children how to surf, hip hop workshops, and a 2013 breakdancing video, "Listen Up Adults" promoting the value of creativity. A girls' basketball league, "Las Poderosas" ("the powerful females") also conducts education on "fitness, health and hygiene."<ref name = "rundle"/>
