Barbara Smitherman

Barbara Smitherman
(Born July 1 1953,in Dodge City Kansas) Registered Nurse, Ordained Minister and author of christian suspense thrillers. She was raised and attended school in McAlester Ok. After high school she attended Eastern Oklahome State College in Wilburton Ok and obtained her Associates degree in Nursing.
She later attended and graduated with a bachelors degree from Masters International School of Divinty in Biblical Studies. She is the founding Pastor of the Tabenacle of Praise Worship Center in Mcalester, Oklahoma as well as the Founder of the Women God's Weapons Ministry, a ministery for women on all levels of their lives.
Growing up in McAlester Oklahoma she had a close relationship with the Rev. Wade Watts, the renowned oklahoma civil rights activist. Barbara was one of only three black youth to attend the newly integrated McAlester School System in 1967. Mrs. Smitherman was an assistant youth advisor for the State of Oklahoma NAACP under the leadership of Mrs. Clara Luper of Oklahoma City, working closely with the African American youth from the Pittsburg county area she helped into many of the youth's succession into productive adulthood.
Barbara Smitherman was the promoter of the Miss Black McAlester Pageant from 1989-19981 with Ms. Kysia Johnson being the first Miss Black McAlester who later went on to win Miss Black Oklahoma Pageant and the opportunity to compete for the title of Miss Black America.
In 2008 Mrs. Smitherman began working on and finished writing her Christian Suspense Thriller Engaging the Sons of Darkness a task that she completed in 36 days and got published within three weeks of completion. A book relating the effects of spiritual warfare on a small town in southeast Oklahoma.
