Baba Sharaf Uddin Saharwardi Hyderabad (1190-1288) (also known as Sharaf Uddin or Saherwardi Iraqi) was a Sufi missionary to India. Early Education Sharaf Uddin's early education and training was completed in the city of Baghdad, in present-day Iraq. He become the disciple of Sufi Master Syed Shabab Uddin Saherwadi, and studied tafsir, hadith and fiqah with him. Eventually he was appointed Saherwadi's spiritual successor.
Missionary work Sharaf Uddin travelled to Southern India in 1241 to promulgate the spread of Islam, spending nine years in missionary work there. He settled in Deccan and resided in the mountains there with around 60 followers. Among these were Hadrat Baba Syedna Shabuddin and Hadrat Baba Syedna Fakheruddin, whose son Hadrat Baba Farid uddin Saherwardi was Sharaf Uddin's eventual successor. The family's descendants continue to oversee Sharaf Uddin's mausoleum in Hyderabad.
