B.G Joshi
Baboolal s/o Goverdhan Joshi; born on November 27, 1954, in a village Jharkhenda Tehsil Biaora District Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh, India.
During childhood he use to play Dadhi(rural version of Field Hockey) with his friends. The same game got his attention once again after hearing the live commentary of the game called Field Hockey internationally.
When he moved to the district headquarters (Rajgarh) for his further studies, there was a daily discussion of Hockey at the Famous Bulbul Tea Stall (Chaiwala), which ensured that he is regularly updated about the game. This constant flow of information about hockey increased his passion towards hockey. Hockey as we all know was a very popular sport those days, teenagers at the tea stall used to get excited to know the scorers of hockey. The same excitement and passion for the game ensured that he started to note down the results and scorers. As the years went by excitement and passion for the game turn out to be his hobby where he use to track records for every match.
His enthusiasm for the game and stats reached his apex point during his college (B.E.Civil), when Indian Men’s Hockey Team had three consecutive podium finishes for the World Cup. In order to ensure that he is correctly updated about all the scores he subscribed to World Hockey by paying £10 annually in 1978, which was a month’s pay for him at that time.
With time he did got his due recognition as Abhay Chhajlani owner of Premier Hindi daily of central India ‘Naidunia’ from Indore started publishing his stats with analysis on tournaments. Later on S.Thyagarajan , a noted Hockey writer of the Hindu and the Sportstar from Chennai also started using his stats and record in the magazine.
Hockey Stats compiled by B.G Joshi still continue to publish in FIH magazine - World Hockey under the tenure of Pat Rowley, Chris Moore, Cathy Harris. Richard Blaze of Australia also included B.G. stats in Hockey Circle magazine of down under.PK Mohan -US based Mumbaikar patronized him by a column fun with the numbers in his monthly bulletin in www.bharatiyahockey.org. Olympic madmen association’s Bill Mallon and Sikh Hockey Olympian.com owner Dil Bahara are also grateful to BG for their hockey record compilations.
His stats are utilized in all international tournaments the reason being that he has compiled World Records on Hockey in 72 different perspective. He has also compiled all international tournaments(men, women-both ) statistics in the format of medallist summary, at a glance, matches and goals ,standings, the finals, top scorers and India in that tournaments. He has also accumulated statistics of all of the India’s matches since inception has been done by him for men and women both. At present he is a Superintending Engineer in Water Resources Department of Madhya Pradesh. His hobby is still continuing.
