Béla Sipos

Béla Sipos (born Sopron, 7 April 1945), Hungarian economist, statistician, professor, a University of Pécs professor emeritus (2013).
Early life and career
His parents (Dr. Béla Sipos and Dóra Szakács) moved from Transylvania to Hungary in 1944. He came from an intellectual family. He has two sisters Dóra (1947) and Judit (1951). Béla Sipos lived in Budapest until 1971, then moved to Pécs. He attended elementary school in Budapest, II. district, Margit Boulevard (1951-1955), then Budapest II., Bear Street (1956-1959). He graduated from Árpád High School in Budapest 1963, with excellent results, then he went to Karl Marx University of Economic Scienses in Budapest where he received an MSc diploma in economics 1967. He was awarded the People's Republic scholarship at his III. and IV. years of the University. His wife is Katalin Rédey dr. (1970) a statistician.
His field of research had been forecasting since 1968. He was the first in the world to prove that the Kondratiev cycle (the long cycles of 50-60 years in economy) cause can be justified in the time series of the socialist countries. The debate on his Doctoral Dissertation at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences could not take place before 1987, not before Kondratiev was rehabilitated. Kondratiev and others were executed based on false charges in 1938. „Kondratiev's reputation has improved greatly since his formal rehabilitation by the Soviet government in 1987 and the discovery of new works he had written while in prison”.
He has also been involved in genealogical studies regarding his ancestors. His research results and resources have been sent to the National Archives of Hungary since 2013. The overall title of the archival material is “dr. Béla Sipos' family history collection, including digital registry and bibliography images created during the research. From 1772 to the 21st century. OL. 03/63/2013.” He has been publishing his research results since 2015 in the MACSE MATRICULA online genealogical journal.

He makes academic progress and becomes lecturer / assistant professor (1975) and reader / associate professor (1981), than professor (1989). More recently he became professor emeritus at the same university now named University of Pécs.
