Azoteq

Azoteq is a South African based company that creates with capacitive proximity and touch sensor integrated circuits(ICs).
History
Based in Paarl, South Africa, Azoteq started in 1998 as a company that created intelligent controls for LED products such as flashlights and headlamps. The company then went into Capacitive sensing technologies around 2004. In June 2012, the Austin, Texas office [http://www.hoovers.com/company/AZOTEQ_(PTY)_LTD/jykyhjrrc-1-1njht4-1njfaq.html] was opened to expand into the US market.
Core Technologies
Azoteq has a range of different type of ICs. Both self and mutual capacitance as well as single and multi-channel ICs. With a self capacitance chip, you have one electrode the couples with any object that holds capacitance(which adds capacitance to the electrode) and is close enough. With mutual capacitance, you have a transmitting electrode and a receiver electrode. When an object that has capacitance comes into the field of mutual capacitance, the object subtracts capacitance away from the electrodes.
Azoteq also creates ICs that would allow touch electrodes to be put on the side of an LCD Screen and allow you to trigger the touch buttons while touching the edge of the LCD screen. Another technology that the company has is the ability to have touch buttons through metal by means of a spacer layer between the PCB and the metal top so that the IC can measure the micro-flexing of the metal.
