Azmyth is an American hard rock band from Orange Springs, Florida consisting of brothers Tim, and Tyler Downey, which are usually accompanied by additional live performers. The band is most known for their win in the Pat Traver's Battle Of The Bands, which led to working with Keith Henderson of Rust Productions (who worked under the greats, Bruce Swedien, and Quincy Jones). The contest was judge by several notable musicians, including Mark Smith, who wrote the score for "The Last of The Mohicans "The name Azmyth is a derivative of the word azimuth. The first two letters A and Z stand for the word azimuth, and the last half "myth" stands for something unknown, making the meaning of the band name an unknown direction. This explains the constant changing style of the band's music. History The band began roughly towards the end of 2003. Although the band did originate in Atlanta, they have always said that it originated way back in Orange Springs. Tim Downey always wanted to play music for a living, but it wasn't until his appearance on "The Regular Guys" show at the age of fifteen that he knew for sure. It wasn't until two years later that the band was initially formed. At the age of thirteen Tyler Downey started playing the drums. This was soon after Tim's appearance on the show. The chemistry was right, and the band started off. Since then they have headlined many big festivals in Florida, headlined at Six Flags 2008 Live And Local concerts, and their most recent accomplishment was playing the Daytona International Speedway before the 2010 Daytona 200 Motorcycle Race. Tim Downey has said onstage, and in interviews that the memory of his grandfather, whom he never met, inspired him to start playing music. He has stated on many occasions that "The one person who has inspired me to do this the most, is the one person i have never met." He told the story onstage before the song "A-Train" on July 24, 2009, and teared up during it. Present As of March 2010, the band is looking for musicians to tour with them full time during the summer of 2010. Tim Downey has said he has enough music for at least six compilations. He stated on his facebook page on May 6, 2010 that he had wrapped up the sixth song on the upcoming project. This was his sixth song in five days according to him. It was stated via the bands facebook on March 13, 2009, that the newest project would include three covers, "Closing Time" by Semisonic, "Breakfast In America" by Supertramp, and "Live and Let Die" by Wings On March 17, 2010 Azmyth stated that they have finished their newest project, and are looking for a name for it from fans. The CD is supposed to be released exclusively through ITunes. On March 20, 2010, the band revealed they are going to shoot a video for the song "Her Name Was Violence" with up and coming videographer Cory Maltby. Maltby joined the brother's on their live broadcast of their new CD "K.A.R.M.A Comes Full Circle" Musical style The music of Azmyth is a cross between blues-rock, alternative and classic rock and roll. In the past, the band has ventured out to try different types of music including country, southern rock(including slide guitar, and harmonica), and even piano music. Heavy influences of the band are acts such as Sammy Hagar, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Soundgarden, Guns N' Roses, Avenged Sevenfold, Honky Toast, and Tom Petty. The band is most notable known for hard rock riffs, a massive drum sound, and grungy vocals. The majority of the songs written have been written by Tim, and Tyler Downey, but the two have ventured out to write with other musicians in the past In the media Azmyth has been featured in many publications including newspapers, and magazines. Their most notable was when they appeared on the front page of two newspapers in one week and shared the front page with A Day To Remember on one, and on the other with Bob Dylan. Azmyth was also noted in Orlando's All Access Music Magazine as a "fun loving trio, with lyrics that either make you laugh or think" Advocacy, and causes Azmyth is a huge supporter of the aid to the homeless. Tim Downey has publicly stated that he would "like to live on the streets for a month just to see what homeless people go through." The band's message started out as changing music, but took a turn during their 2009 tour when the band saw another band mistreated at a club. The band decided to stand up for the rights of artist's, musician's, and band's treatment when performing somewhere, no matter how unknown the band is. The band has stated that they want to "bring back the soul that we feel music has been lacking for over 30 years". *In November Azmyth's picture was posted on the Ocala Star Banner's Opix site, and within a few days had over 1,000,000 views, crowning it as the most viewed album to date. *Azmyth finished second in The Jacksonville's Next Big Rock Band competition in mid 2009. The competition was put on by Jacksonville radio stations such as WXXJ X102.9, and WFYV-FM Rock 105 *Azmyth is one of the select few bands to be featured on gainesvillebands.com.
