Autobomb

Autobomb was formed in San Diego in 2003 as an alternative/thrash metal group.

Biography
Guitarists Cyrus Ghahremani and David Price first started the band out of frustration and disgust, simply claiming "nobody writes good music anymore". The band's initial catalogue drew from songs Cyrus had been writing over the preceding two years, hoping to someday revive the intelligent and technical guitar and compositional style employed in the work of Megadeth and early Metallica.

The band's original lineup comprised of Cyrus Ghahremani handling all vocal, keyboard/synth, and rhythm guitar duties, David Price playing lead guitar, Brian Rumsey on the drums, and Andy Paul doing bass guitar.

In October 2004, Tony Montemarano (Mursic, ex Sing The Body Electric) auditioned as the band's full-time keyboardist. Knowing the music needed a more melodic vocalist with higher range, the band instead asked Tony to become Autobomb's singer and frontman. The offer was taken, and this lineup performed their debut show on October 8, 2004 at the world-famous west coast venue, SOMA. Popularity only grew as they continued to perform around San Diego, selling out shows from the start and being featured at the Vans Warped Tour.

On October 14, 2005, The band released the March of Death EP, their debut studio album, featuring 7 of the band's most well-received live tracks, including the first album appearance of March of Death. This was soon after the destruction of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina - consequently, the band donated proceeds from the albums' sales to the New Orleans Restoration Fund.

Autobomb has played with such acts as Andrew W.K., Avenged Sevenfold, Thrice, Atreyu, Saosin, and Guttermouth, and the Warped Tour, exposing guitar-oriented thrash metal to a more mainstream audience.

Origins of the name
While many people believe that the band's name refers to a car bomb or a bomb that explodes automatically, it holds a deeper meaning. While the self titled track ("Autobomb") illustrates a first-person account of spontaneous combustion, it also resonates as a philosophy; Ghahremani has said several times that "the riffs, the live show, everything should be as explosive as possible."

It is more recently speculated that the name is a political statement and summary of the United States "shoot first, ask later" policy of dealing with the middle east - in a sense, auto-bombing a country.

It is very likely that the name comes from the character "Autobomb" from Super Mario World 2. On the official myspace page for Autobomb they list Nintendo as an influence, making it more likely.
