Australian Afghanistan veteran and Iraq veteran, are phrases used to describe an Australian national who has served in the Australian Defence Force on operations during the Iraq War and Afghanistan War. Campaign Medals The Iraq Medal and Afghanistan Medal were proclaimed by the Australian Government on ANZAC DAY, April 25, 2009. As of April 22, 2009 the Australian Government has issued 15,139 Iraq Medals and 6134 Afghanistan Medals. Veterans Organisations Unlike in America, no organisation currently exists in Australia specifically dedicated to advocacy for veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq. Several organisations including the RSL, Legacy and the Australian Peacekeepers and Peacemakers Veteran's Association promote a spirit of camraderie and improve the lives of veterans and their families.
