Augustus Mancuso a.k.a. "Augie" was a criminal and alleged mob associate who is a suspected paternal relative of Bonanno crime family mob boss Michael Mancuso
Biography Augustus was born in Howard Beach, Queens to Carmine Mancuso and a woman identified only as "Chickie Mancuso". His mother stood at barely five feet tall, even in five-inch spiked heels and towering beehive hairstyle. When Augustus went to seek a psychiatric evaluation for pleading insanity, Mrs. Mancuso talked to Barbara R. Kirwin, Ph.D. nonstop and she spoke authoratively of her son's past injuries that she said made him legally insane. Dr. Kirwin would later comment that his mother was the "brains of the operation." She hovered over Augustus and wouldn't let Dr. Kirwin get near Augustus. When not in his mother's presence Augustus displayed himself as a robust and roguishly handsome man. She noted that during their discussions, he demonstrated signs of cerebral damage in his slightly slurred speech and his occasional stammering and groping for words. But all in all, Dr. Kirwin would state that he was remarkably garrulous and sociable. However, when she began to perform certain psychiatric tests, his performance level nosedived. He faked his responses to the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory test, admitting to all possible types of problems and symptoms, even those that had nothing to do with organic brain injuries. His HSAS test was also faked. The only interpretation that could be made of his results was that he was employing a conscious strategy of malingering. He performed equally poorly on the memory tasks and IQ tests. Although he used words in conversation, he was unable to define them when they appeared on the test.
