An Association of Churches is a group of churches that have organized themselves together for the advancement of their beliefs. Sometimes (erroneously) called Conventions, these Associations are largely ceremonial, and have no real authority over member churches. Similar collectives The term should not be confused with a Synod, the council of an associated church collective or a Presbyterian Church which is distinctly different. Other uses The term association of churches may also be used in relation to a specific collective of churches of a particular denomination. For example: *Re-formed Association of Churches of Christ *Association of Baptist Churches in Ireland *Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches *Association of Vineyard Churches *National Spiritualist Association of Churches *New Wineskins Association of Churches
