Ashurst Primary School

Ashurst Primary School, formerly known as Ashurst County Primary School, provides education for children of Nursery, Infant and Junior age. The school is located in the Blackbrook area of St Helens in North West England. It is part of St Helens Local Education Authority.

History

The school opened in 1977 and celebrated it's most recent significant anniversary, 25 years, in 2001. To mark the occasion, a number of community based activities took place and a helicopter visited the school to take an aerial photograph of the site - this picture is displayed in the main school corridor.

The Family of Ashurst

The school promotes a strong ethos of inclusion and uses the umbrella term, 'The Family Of Ashurst' to describe it's staff and pupils. The metaphor extends beyond this however, and parents and carers are seens as part of 'The Family', as are former staff and pupils.

Current Information (2007/2008)

At it's most recent OFSTED inspection, the school had a total of 271 children on roll. The school day runs from 8:50am - 3:15pm.

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is known as 'The Friends Of Ashurst.' The voluntary group of parents and helpers regularly hold fundraising events which benefit the school.

Ashurst often holds fundraising events for local, national and international charities. A list of those who have benefitted can be seen on the schools website. The School's adopted Charity is dEBra.

Sport

Ashurst has a strong record in local sporting competitions and runs a number of sports clubs. Most notably of recent is the success of our Netball teams, who have represented St Helens in the Merseyside Youth Games for three consecutive years (2005-2007), twice as winners and once as runners up of the local qualifying tournament.
