Ascension Missionary Baptist Church is located in Memphis Tennessee, USA. The congregation celebrated its 30th anniversary on October 18, 2020. The church was founded in 1990 by Pastor Willie S. Williams, and is a Baptist, Christian community which celebrates communion every first Sunday. Ascension Baptist Church recently in the wake of COVID-19 have moved to hybrid digital sermons live-streamed through Facebook. (https://www.facebook.com/ascensionmbc/) History == October 1990 Rev. Willie S. Williams Jr., alongside his wife Shirley Williams and three other companions founded Ascension Missionary Baptist Church. located at what was then known as a Best Western. Prior to the purchase of the land and construction of the building that would become their current place of worship the church congregated at what is currently a Comfort Inn Motel for 6 years, before moving to their current location on 3000 New Allen Rd. Memphis, TN, 38128 in the Raleigh area. By early 1998 the building was completed and ready for use. Later in the early 2000's an extension was applied to the building due to a population/ attendance spike in members. The current motto of the church is "A Church On The Way Up." == * Youth- * Young Adult- * Women's Ministry *Men's Ministry- *Music Ministry- *C.R.E.W Ministry- *H.E.A.L.T.H. Ministry- *Vanessa R. Reeves Nursing Home Ministry of Hope- *Ushers and First Aid Ministry- *The Pastor's Aid Ministry- Ministry program *Music Ministry Groups ** Ascension Baptist Church Mass Choir- All age ranges/ members of any age based ministry. ** Youth and Young Adult Choir- Members ages 7 to 35 ** Male Chorus- For men over 35. ** Praise and Worship Ministry Team- Men and women of the young adult and women's ministry. * Decisions By Design- Young ladies abstinence and etiquette program for the girls of the youth ministry. They are led and taught by members of the Women's ministry. *Boys to Men Program- A manners and abstinence program for the boys of the church. They are taught by the Men's ministry. *Nursing Home Christmas Program- The Vanessa R. Reeves Ministry comes to a local nursing home and celebrates Christmas with the residents through games, songs, dances, and passing out new pajamas to those present. Williams, Jr. * First Lady Shirley Williams Churches and organizations associated with Ascension * National Baptist Convention USA Inc.- Formerly 3 separate conventions they came together in 1895 to create the foundation of the organization we know of today. Through an internal struggle and eventual separation with their publishing committee a separate committee with much closer connections to the convention was formed. After their original President Dr. E. C. Morris stepped down 6 generations of Presidents have stepped up to the mantle. *Pastor Willie S. Williams Jr.'s Pastor the late Rev. Adams of and his church *Pastor Swane of Trustees * The men in charge of the finances of the church. A deacon can be a trustee in the case of a smaller church. Deacons deal with and help the people of the Church while Trustees deal with the money/ the church's finances. There can be a separate board of Trustees and Deacons for bigger locations. In the case of Ascension Baptist Church there are no official trustees, however members of the deacon board do the work of both positions. See Also
