Army Multimedia The Army Multimedia team reports to the Director of Army Public Affairs, a division of the Chief of the Land Staff in the Canadian Army, and is part of the Department of National Defence. The Army Multimedia team has two primary purposes. Its internal role is to provide reliable and accurate information to Canadian soldiers and the Army chain of command using traditional and emerging technologies. Its external role is to help the Army connect with Canadians. The Army Multimedia team has three components: * Army News * Army Web * Special Projects Army News gathers news about and for soldiers, produces and distributes two bilingual Army News video episodes weekly and provides print stories and photographs for the Army website and the Army pages in The Maple Leaf. Army News episodes are distributed to more than a dozen local community cable channels, mostly near major Canadian Forces bases. The Army Web team maintains and updates the national Army website and provides guidance and support to Army sub-sites across Canada. The Army Web team also manages social media channels for Army News. The Special Projects team produces special programming of interest to Army audiences. Examples of past work include the reality TV show , the music video [http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/land-terre/multimedia/index-eng.asp Lock and Load (with Canada’s Heroes)] and documentaries like Desert Lions and Medals of Honour. Army Multimedia’s team of military and civilian staff work in an Ottawa, Ontario production centre that houses editorial and production offices, Web servers, video editing suites, a television studio and a sound studio. Eleven Army News field teams of soldier-reporters and image technicians, supported by public affairs officers, gather news throughout the Army for Army Multimedia. Army News teams are located in Halifax, Gagetown, Valcartier, Ottawa, Petawawa, Toronto, Shilo, Wainwright and Edmonton. Several Reserve Army News teams are also located throughout Canada. An Army News team is currently deployed in Afghanistan as well. Through cable, Web and DVD distribution, Army News episodes are viewed more than 3.5 million times each year.
