Saber Teams, primarily a clandestine agency has been in existence since 1999, has been contracted along with GroupH3 and ESIM to provide Protective Services for Diplomats and Dignitaries in Somaliland. They are the first three groups to be providing these types of services in Somaliland.
Worldwide conflicts
In statements made by International Crisis Group, the advocacy arm of Crisis Watch that works to prevent conflicts worldwide and The SomalilandPress . Increased bombings and political assassination attempts in Somaliland led by Islamist insurgency groups from Somalia’s Al-Shabaab the leader of Somali Warlords that have ravaged that country leaving it virtually lawless since the departure of the Transitional Federal Government. Al-Shabaab (The Youth) is closely linked with Al-Qaeda and terrorists known to be Al-Qaeda have been documented as being in Somalia. Coordinated bombings have become a daily occurrence with one bombing killing 4 Security Police protecting a Governor who was seriously wounded and hospitalized.In another occurance Al-Shabaab has taken resposibility for 22 civilians and 3 Government Ministers who were killed in a devastatating suicide attack carried out on 12/03/09 at a University. One month later in heavy fighting with Islamic insurgents in battle with a rival militia 47 combatants were killed. Earlier on Army Chief of Staff dismissed 500 soldiers after returning from a French Legionaire camp in Djibouti simaltaneously Al-Shabaab banned UN agencies from the South for disrupting justice.
Al-Shabaab has no less than 33 tanks and numerous forces to possibly withstand an invasion. President Obama has furnished Somaliland with slightly over 2 Million Dollars in small arms with a possible increase of that amount if required to defend an invasion of insurgents, however he will not commit any US or Coalition troops in this conflict.
The combination of the private security teams 3800 Tier 1 field "Operators" are primarily comprised of former Special Forces Military Soldiers and former members of Intelligence Agencies from throughout the world. In the event more men are required, they can be called into service from 24 hours to 2 weeks.
