Armenian Space Station

Armenian Space Station is a Progressive Metal band based in Los Angeles. Formed
by Greg Hosharian and Barrett Yeretsian in 2009, the band released it's first album the same year. The band consists of Greg Hosharian (Piano), Barrett Yeretsian (Drums), Doug Weiand (Guitar), and Clint Federsen (Bass). Their self titled debut album "Armenian Space Station" was released on October 18, 2009. The band has never gotten much mainstream recognition, but have had good reception from the Progressive Metal community in LA. Since then, they have released a single off their 2022 album named "Winter Solstice" of the same name.
The band came into promminence at the Moscow Cinema in front of 1,200 people for their first performance. After their debut concert in Yerevan, the band added Phil Trujeque, and Clint Federsen. The same year the band released it's self titled debut EP. Since then, they have played a sold out U.S debut show at , and shot a music video for their unreleased single "Escape Velocity" which was featured on Yahoo Music.
History
Formation, Debut Album, and Shows (2009-2011)
In 2009, Armenian Space Station was formed by Greg Hosharian (Piano) and Barrett Yeretsian (Drums). Greg was a musician, composer, conductor, pianist and orchestrator, and toured as the keyboardist for the Progressive Rock band, . He was also in two other groups of his own, Vendetta and The Hosharian Brothers Band. Barrett was a self-taught drummer who originally learned how to play the drums by learning the Dhol drum in Armenia in 1992. The two officially launched Armenian Space station on October 18, 2009, releasing their self titled debut album, "Armenian Space Station" which was a 4-Song EP. The same month the band played their first show, a sold out show at the Moscow Cinema in Yerevan, Armenia on October 29, 2009. On January 22, 2010, the band announced their debut U.S show at the on April 10, 2010. On February 22, 2010, the band released a music video for their song "Art of Rebellion" on YouTube. 5 days later, the band also announced that they would be writing a fifth song for their show at the Roxy, and asked their fans for names for the song. They eventually decided on "Escape Velocity" for the name of the song. 6 days before the show, on April 4, 2010, the band released their official music video for "Escape Velocity." On April 10, 2010, Armenian Space Station performed at the Roxy along with West Indian Girl, another LA rock band. After the debut U.S show at the Roxy, the band began to work on a music video for their song "Fire in the Sky." On July 5, 2010, the band also announced that they would be playing at the on July 23, 2010. Two days later on July 7th, the band also released their music video for "Fire in the Sky." Just another two days later, Armenian Space Station played at the . After the Troubador show, the band booked another show for the Mosaic IV event at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre on October 17, 2010. The event had been a major staple of the Armenian Music scene. After two months in preperation, fans learned that the show had been postponed, and later cancelled. After the cancellation, the band went into a hiatus for the next 3 months, until January 30, 2010 when they announced that they would be playing at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse on Febuary 5, 2011. On Febuary 5, 2011 Armenian Space Station played at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse with Viza, Echocell, A Splinter and Armenian Public Radio. It was their last show to date, and since they have not done a live performance. After the performance Greg went back to conducting the "Armenian Pops Orchestra."
Hiatus (2012-2019)
In 2012, Greg Hosharian took a break from the Armenian Pops Orchestra. While Greg took a break from the orchestra, Barrett went back to producing pop songs. He produced the songs Jealous of the Angels and Not Yet, by Jenn Bostic which hit #1 and #5 on the U.K. Singles Chart. On March 16, 2013, Greg Hosharian played a solo performance with Ayline Amirayan, another Armenian artist at another Mosaic event. Musically, not much else was heard from the members, aside from another performance by the Armenian Pops Orchestra on March 9, 2014. In October of 2013 Armenian Space Station's song "Commence Primary Ignition" was featured in a short film by the Armenia Tree Project alongside music from System of a Down and Dorians. In the down time Clint Federsen and Phil Trujeque took a break from the scene and almost nothing was heard from the group for the rest of the decade.
End of Hiatus and Winter Solstice (2020-Present)
On October 31, 2020, Armenian Space Station announced that they would be starting pre-production for new music. After another 6 month hiatus, on May 22, 2021, Armenian Space Station made an anouncement that they finished writing 6 new songs for a new album, and were about to start production. 8 months later on Febuary 8, 2022, Armenian Space Station released a video on their YouTube channel, titled "A Reintroduction." In the video, they announced that they would be releasing a song from their new album "Winter Solstice." The song respectively named "Winter Solstice," is a 6 minute piece, that contains many classical interludes from Hosharian, and features newly added guitarist Doug Wieand, who replaced Phil Truejeque. The track was professionally mixed and mastered by producer and mixing engineer, Alen Konakglu. The track released on Febuary 22, 2022. The song was promoted by Serj Tankian of System of a Down on his Facebook page, and was featured in an article by Heavy Magazine.
