Arbor Networks

Arbor Networks is company based in Lexington, Masschusetts that provides tools for monitoring network performance. The company was founded in 2000 with patented technology based on Internet security research conducted by the company's founders at the University of Michigan College of Engineering under a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) grant. The company's services include residential P2P traffic throttling equipment following its acquisition of Ellacoya Networks , and of netflow-based traffic profiling.

Arbor offers the following product lines:
*e30 traffic management Arbor Ellacoya eSeries - DPI-Based Technology. The e30 is a 4 Gbit/s broadband service optimization platform that has been deployed in over 150 service provider networks. The e30 is a deep packet inspection (DPI) technology device and provides advanced subscriber and application management capabilities, including bandwidth optimization, bandwidth management, usage tracking and reporting.
*PeakFlow traffic management Arbor Peakflow - IP Flow-Based Technology. Peakflow conducts network behavior analysis (NBA) to provide pervasive, cost effective network visibility and real-time threat detection.
Arbor's products are sold by a wide variety of resellers in each region , including Embarq Logistics in the United States, and Telus in Canada.
Bell Canada, an investor in Ellacoya before the Arbor acquisition , deployed the technology for its P2P throttling .
Shaw Communications of Canada is also a customer of Arbor's Ellacoya product .
British Telecom is another customer of the company , and the e30 devices can be seen in the network diagrams associated with the Phorm behavioural targeted advertising trials .
Arbor networks is also in the business of filtering copyrighted content from p2p filesharing networks, which is a distinct solution from throttling p2p networks , working with SNEP (Syndicat National de l’Édition Phonographique, an organization that represents the interests of the French music industry, the RIAA of France) .
