Arbor Avenue Films is an independent film production company based in Worthington and Grove City, Ohio. Principal members include writer-director-producers John Whitney and Phil Garrett. As of the start of 2011, Arbor Avenue Films has produced one feature film and a number of short films. Awards and exhibition The company and its productions have received a number of awards for its work including the Festival Award (for John Whitney and Phil Garrett) and Best Actress, to Amanda Howell, at the Cincinnati International Film Festival; Best Family Film at the Cleveland Indie Gathering; Best Film at the Harmony Ridge Film Festival; and the Chris Award for the "highest level of achievement in entertainment" at the Columbus International Film & Video Festival. Arbor Avenue Films' first feature, Horrors of War, received domestic and international video distribution, and the Arbor Avenue Films short film The Fixer played in regular rotation on IFC, the Independent Film Channel. Productions Meet the Phantods (rock-umentary) In the early autumn of 2010, Phil Garrett came up with the idea of doing a feature documentary on the Columbus-based rock band the Phantods. John Whitney quickly came on board with the idea. The film has been in production since and is slated to be completed in late spring of 2011. The film follows the Phantods through rehearsals and shows as they prepare for their first major CD release, opening for a national act. John Whitney is directing. The Whitney-Garrett duo are writing and producing the film together. Additional team members include co-producers Chip Kocel and Gil Whitney, who are also helping to shoot the documentary. The movie was released in 2012. Eroded In 2009 and 2010, Arbor Avenue Films produced the short film Eroded. The film was shot over hour days in the winter of 2009-2010 using the RED ONE camera. Post-production was completed in 2010. Measured Sacrifice In 2009, Arbor Avenue Films completed the film Measured Sacrifice, which went on to play at many festivals where it received a number of awards. Directed by John Whitney and produced by Phil Garrett, the film is a low-tech science fiction film that follows the story of a young woman named Terry who faces a desperate situation and an impossible decision in a dystopian future America embroiled in an unending "war on terror", and concerns itself with how human beings deal with the fallout of conditions (out of their control) that affect them in many ways.
