Aram Kouyoumdjian

Armenian by birth, Kouyoumdjian immigrated to the United States at the age of 10.
Education
Kouyoumdjian earned a BA in English from UCLA and an M.A. in English (with distinction) from California State University, Northridge, after authoring the thesis, "Making the Best of Exile: William Saroyan and the Theater of Diaspora." He holds a J.D. (with distinction) from the University of Pacific's McGeorge School of Law, where he served on law review.
Legal career
A practicing attorney, Kouyoumdjian was formerly a partner with the civil litigation firm of Poswall, White, Kouyoumdjian & Cutler, and currently serves as an Associate General Counsel for the Los Angeles Unified School District. He has broad experience in employment law, and civil and educational rights. He has handled multiple jury trials and appeals, and several of his high-profile cases have captured media attention from both print and broadcast outlets, including the Los Angeles Times.
Theater experience
Alongside the law, Kouyoumdjian is an award-winning playwright and director. He is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Vista Players, an ensemble that “set the standard by which others were judged” (Sacramento News & Review). He has won Elly Awards for writing (The Farewells) and directing (Three Hotels). Kouyoumdjian’s directing credits include Arcadia, Far Away, Marvin’s Room, The Play About the Baby, and Six Degrees of Separation. His feature plays and solo pieces have been performed in half a dozen cities, from Los Angeles (Fountain Theatre) to London (Finborough Theatre). His most recent productions include Levon Shant's Ancient Gods (2014); i Go On, an open-air, site-specific performance at Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles (2015); and the forthcoming Happy Armenians.
