April Griffin is a member of the School Board of Hillsborough County Public Schools and was elected in the November 7, 2006, general election. She is one of seven members responsible for making policy decisions and overseeing a budget of $3.2 billion for the 11th largest school district in the nation, which is also Hillsborough County’s largest employer with 25,000 employees. Griffin is currently an officer on the Youth Crime Watch of Florida and Tampa Theater boards of directors, the Juvenile Justice Board, the Hillsborough County Council of Governments, and the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners’ Wade Boggs Award Selection Committee. She is a Tampa Chamber of Commerce Leadership Tampa alumna. She has been a classroom volunteer in her children's schools for many years. Prior to her full-time commitment to the school board she was a business owner and long time child and elder advocate. The Weekly Planet (now Creative Loafing) honored April with a "Best of The Bay" award for her humanitarian work with the medically needy. Griffin was born, brought-up, and educated in Hillsborough County. She has been married to Brian Griffin since 1989 and they are the parents of two sons.
