Apoorva Mehta is the founder and CEO of online grocery delivery company Instacart. Early life Apoorva was born in India and moved with his family to Canada in 2000. He studied engineering at the University of Waterloo. Career Apoorva previously worked at Blackberry, Qualcomm, and then Amazon as a supply chain engineer, where he developed fulfillment systems to move packages from Amazon’s warehouses to customers’ homes. In 2010, Apoorva left Amazon to start his own company. Before founding Instacart, Apoorva started more than 20 companies. Apoorva founded Instacart in 2012 when he was 25 years old. Apoorva was initially rejected because his application was 2 months late, but he used his own app to deliver a six pack of beer to one of the partners at Y-Combinator’s headquarters after being rejected. Instacart was originally launched in San Francisco and since then has expanded throughout the U.S. and Canada.
