Mark Patrick Flaherty is the current Controller of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Early life, education and family Mark is the son of former county commissioner Jim Flaherty, and the nephew of former Pittsburgh mayor and county commissioner, Pete Flaherty. He graduated from Duke University and worked as an investment advisor prior to graduating from the Duquesne University School of Law. Once admitted to the bar, his practice focused on mainly on estate and tax law. Political career On February 8, 2003, Mark announced his intention to run for Allegheny County Controller and won his party's nomination in a crowded three-way race on May 20, 2003.
