Anonymous surveillance is a new emerging framework for video surveillance which respects the users' privacy while still providing safety and security. It is an enhancement over existing privacy protection methods that only focus on hiding faces in the video; which was found unreliable in recent research. It is found in that with the help of prior knowledge, a surveillance operator can easily infer the identities of the individuals even with non-facial information such as clothes, activities, location etc. In Anonymous Surveillance, the videos are monitored remotely with the operators having minimal instructions/knowledge required for situation assessment. The procedure of not allowing persons with prior knowledge to access the surveillance video is called context decoupling.
