Anny Slater

Anny Slater is principal of Slaters Intellectual Property Lawyers and has over 25 years experience as an intellectual property lawyer and trade mark attorney in all industry areas particularly media and technology. She has over 16 years experience in the chemical patent attorney field. She is also a Notary Public.
Moreover she is an active member in the Law Society's "shadowing program" for Indigenous students and was placed on the NSW Government's honour roll for her outstanding achievements in law, arts and community service.
Anny Slater is also an award-winning author, a successful theatre and film director and producer.
Legal
Anny began her legal career in Melbourne, completing degrees in chemistry and law and a Master of Arts. Before joining Dunhill Madden Butler (which later merged with PwC Legal) she worked for some years as a trade mark and patent specialist and set up and was head of trade marks at Gilbert & Tobin for three years. After three years in the PwC partnership (January 1998 - September 2001, head of Entertainment, IP and Technology law for Australasia and the Pacific Rim), Anny launched her own law firm in 2001 called Slaters Intellectual Property Lawyers.
Anny is a member of IIPS, LESANZhttp://www.lesanz.org.au/, AIMIA, INTA, SPAA, AWG and the NSW Women Lawyers Association. She is a regular speaker at the College of Law, the NSW Writers Centre and various CLE Seminars. She recently spoke at the National Speakers Association and Yale University.
Clients
Anny has built an impressive client list which includes artist Ken Done and his companies and Just Cuts, one of the largest hair salon franchises in the world. The firm has also had great success in attracting international clients like São Paulo Alpargatas S.A. (Brazil), the manufacturers of world-famous Havaianas footwear, as well as famous U.S. pop band Devo.

Community Service
Anny Slater is an active mentor in the NSW Law Society's "shadowing" program for indigenous students and Women in Film and TV's mentoring program as well as running an arts related pro bono practice the first Saturday of each month.
Arts career
Anny Slater runs entertainment production company Moondance Pictures. She was a freelance writer for Australian sketch show Comedy Inc: The Late Shift, and various other screenwriting projects. She is the festival director of the Good Dog International Film Festival and runs the Balmain Easter Dog Parade.

Awards
* Anny’s collective film work was recently honoured by the Australian Government by inclusion in Australia’s National Collection held at the National Film and Sound Archive and she was chosen by NIDA for its yearlong coveted theatre and film Directors Intensive.
* In 2009 Anny was personally chosen by Oscar winner Michael Moore to screen at his 2009 Traverse City Film Festival and to teach at Mike’s new film school in Michigan which she did to rave reviews.
* In the 2008, Anny was nominated for best direction in an animation at the Australian Director’s Guild Awards for her original work MASTERPEER THEATRE.
* Atonement Tonight won a Columbine Award for best screenplay at the 2006 Moondance International Film Festival in Los Angeles.
* The script The Adventures of Roman Pilgrim won in its category as best screenplay at the Moondance International Film Festival and at the Disney sponsored Santa Clarita International Family Film Festival in Los Angeles. The script was a semi finalist at the 2003 Slamdance International Film Festival.
* Australian political comedy The Ball was short listed for nomination in the best live action short category of the 2004 Academy Awards, was nominated for a United Nations Media Peace Prize and won a 2005 Christopher Wetzel comedy award from Chicago’s Gene Siskel Film Center. The film screened at more than 60 film festivals around the World, was sold to Australian TV, released on DVD in Europe and featured in the 2006 World Cup Australian TV broadcast on local network SBS.
