Annie Locke

English born artist, whose music on piano, keyboards and synthesizers, is variously categorised as new age, ambient, or relaxation music. Coming from a classically trained background however she considers her roots lie closer to classical music and what she describes as ‘romantic melody’. Even so she is considered one of the early exponents of new age music in the UK.

Her music can be recognised by its lingering melodies and unusual textures of sound, which one would describe as distinctive, yet easily accessible and immediately appealing - visit her Website to find out more and have a listen.

Album Sales
Album sales are believed to be near 100,000 mark across all titles. Selling largely by 'word of mouth' her albums have sold in Europe, America, South America and Australia and have been used in a host of circumstances to help produce an atmosphere of calm. Hospitals have used her music a lot, notably within operations and with cancer patients. Her American distributor of the 1980s (Serenity Music) once told her that her albums had been used in maternity wards across parts of America; and an estimated 5,000 babies had been born while listening to her Portraits album.

She began as an Assistant Floor Manager then later became a Production Manager on numerous Play For Today and Play of The Month productions plus famously, . She also directed a Dracula play at the in Cornwall. And while still at the BBC, directed some classical music programmes.

Annie worked with TV & film director, , on Solzhenitsyn's The Love-Girl And The Innocent. She and Alan formed a close friendship which lasted many years. After Alan died in 1990, she wrote a suite of pieces entitled, A Man Called Alan. She plans to include the title piece (of the same name) on her forthcoming piano album. She also plans to orchestrate the complete suite for a following orchestral album.

Making Music
Some years later her musical interests were re-awakened after she played a synthesizer for the first time. Within a very short time she had composed her first music. This also became her first album, The Living Earth.

Eighteen months later she produced her second album Portraits. Like her first album this has also been highly regarded by people in the medical profession and elsewhere for its relaxation and enjoyment value.

Annie's third album was Memories. Like her other works, Memories has tracks that were improvised in single takes; for instance the music for A Time There Was, was improvised entirely in one twenty minute session using a variety of sounds including piano solo - she added orchestral textures afterwards.

Playing and Teaching Piano
Annie does the occasional solo concert on piano. Sometimes she combines a concert with a talk on how music and sound affect our health, a subject in which she is deeply interested. If you want to hear her play, try visiting the Three Ways Hotel in Mickleton, Gloucestershire, UK (famous for being the venue of The Pudding Club). You can find Annie doing a regular slot there on a Saturday evening and also some Sunday lunchtimes.

She also teaches piano, taking students through the piano grades.
