Anna Brumbaugh

Anna Brumbaugh is an American clarinetist from Boulder, Colorado.
Biography
Brumbaugh began lessons in Colorado with her first teacher Bil Jackson, former principal clarinet of the Colorado Symphony until eventually starting her undergraduate degree at the Eastman School of Music. While at Eastman Anna studied with principal clarinet of the American Ballet Theatre and world renowned soloist, Jon Manasse, eventually receiving her Bachelor of Music with High Distinction and Performer’s Certificate in 2011. She continued her studies with Manasse in New York City at the Juilliard School with a full scholarship awarded by the Irene Diamond Fund and received her Master of Music degree in May of 2013.
Brumbaugh began her orchestral career in mid-study performing with the American Ballet Theatre Orchestra and The Orchestra of St. Luke's for which she was an active substitute from 2013 to 2017. In the summer of 2017 she performed as Principal clarinet with the American Symphony Orchestra in the US premier of ’s, Dimitrij. Anna also is an active performer at the Lakes Area Music Festival in Brainerd, Minnesota, where she presents classical music concerts that are free to the general public.
Brumbaugh is also a very sought-after soloist and chamber musician. In 2013 she received her first review from New York Times journalist Zachary Woolfe where he calls her playing of Stravinsky’s “L'Histoire du soldat” a highlight of the performance and “incisive”. Later that year Anna collaborated with the Eastman Wind Ensemble to release their recording of Stravinsky’s “Octet for Wind Instruments” on AVIE Records. As a soloist she was the winner of the 2013 Lynn Conservatory Concerto Competition and on a separate occasion performed the Florida premier of Harold Farberman’s piece, “Triple Play: A Concerto for Clarinet.” Brumbaugh also won the $8,000 second prize at the national level of the National Society of Arts and Letters Woodwind Competition (2013) and later that year performed as a soloist with the Miami Mozarteum Orchestra and Lakes Area Music Festival Orchestra.
Anna has had an active role as an educator throughout her career. While at Juilliard she served as a mentor in the Juilliard Pre College Program and taught in the “Music Advancement Program” and the “Instrumental Music Program.”<ref name="LAMF" /> Her teaching continued in Miami, Florida where she became the clarinet professor at Miami Arts Charter School and Miami Dade College’s New World School of the Arts.<ref name"NuDeco"/> Brumbaugh continues to teach making it a point to get classical music to the children of communities underrepresented in the field. She recently published a series of videos through the Palm Beach Symphony that offer free clarinet instruction.<ref name"PalmBeach"/>
