Animation Source Choice Awards

The Animation Source Choice Awards (abbreviated ASCA) is an awards show hosted by animation fansite Animation Source. The awards are similar to the Annie Awards, in that they both honor the best in animation from the previous year, but there are some differences--mainly, that the ASCAs are voted on by members of Animation Source. The first awards show will be hosted on March 15, 2012 .
As the name suggests, the ASCAs honor the best in animation from the previous calendar year, and are voted by members of Animation Source. Membership is free, as it is a fansite, which means anyone in the world can vote in the awards, except the judge. For the first awards show, there will be 20 categories, of which thirteen will honor animated films of 2011, one animated television series, one video games, one direct-to-video films, one foreign films, and three special categories.

Voting
In the broadest sense, anybody in the whole world can vote for the ASCAs, except the judge, whose job is to collect votes and make preliminary decisions about categories and films eligible for each. Only members of Animation Source can vote, but as membership is free to anybody, this in essence allows an unlimited number of people to vote. To vote, members send a private message to the judge, who tallies up the votes.
The first round of voting takes place in January of each year, which takes the longlist of films and narrows it down to a shortlist for each category. A second round of voting in February chooses the winners. Then the winners are announced during a live webcast by the judge during the month of March.
The purpose of the awards show is to help promote animation and animated films. So far several people have joined Animation Source just to vote for the awards show.
