Angel Torres Ortiz

Angel Luis Torres Ortiz (also known as Luigi Torres Ortiz) is a Puerto Rican politician. He is the mayor of Yauco, a city located in southern Puerto Rico, near the larger city of Ponce. During the 2020 Puerto Rican general election, Torres Ortiz received 9,316 votes in the race for mayor of Yauco, compared to the 4,054 votes received by political rival Yadira Ramos Rodriguez of the Partido Popular Democratico and 714 votes received by the Partido Independentista Puertorriqueno's Maria Virginia Nunez Naranjo.
Graduated from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, he obtained a bachelor's degree Laude in Political Science. He continues his studies leading to a Master's Degree in Public Administration at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico. In 2001 he began to work in the public service under the Municipal Government of Yauco, having as his task to reorganize all the community boards. Without receiving a salary, he achieves his mission in each of the neighborhoods. He is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Fraternity, Passive Chapter and the Rotary Club of Yauco.
Torres Ortiz is affiliated to the statehood-seeking PNP party.
Mayor
On August 21, 2021 Torres Ortiz announced the return of Yauco students to local schools, which had been previously closed in Yauco for two years due to an earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic.
