Andy Auld (pilot)

Commander Andrew Donaldson Auld DSC (born 1945) is a Scottish aviator, and a former Royal Navy pilot.
Early life
He was born in Scotland.
Career
Royal Navy
He went to Britannia Royal Naval College in 1963, being commissioned in 1967. He learnt to fly with 1 FTS (RAF), leaving in 1971. He joined 893 Naval Air Squadron.
In 1979 he went to the Directorate of Naval Air Warfare in London. In January 1982 he became the CO of 800 Naval Air Squadron.
After the Falklands War he was moved to Antisubmarine Warfare Striking Forces Atlantic. On 17 January 1984, he was promoted from Lieutenant Commander to Commander. In 1984 he was moved to Allied Forces Northern Europe in Norway. He moved back to the Directorate of Naval Air Warfare in London in 1987.
Falklands War
During the Falklands War, he flew Sea Harriers XZ457 and XZ499, and was the Commanding Officer of 800 Naval Air Squadron. He flew 62 operational missions.
On 1 May 1982, he bombed the runway at the Falklands, in Sea Harrier XZ457.
For his service in the Falklands War, on 8 October 1982 he was awarded the DSC. The aircraft XZ457 shot down most enemy aircraft in the Falklands War - three downed aircraft, and one damaged; with an AIM-9L missile he shot down two Argentinian aircraft (C-419 piloted by Capitán Raúl Díaz and C-430) north of Pebble Island on 24 May 1982 in the aircraft; Raúl Díaz survived the incident.
29 Sea Harriers saw service in the Falklands War in 1435 operational missions, with two lost to ground fire, and four lost in accidents.
