All My Love, Alec Brock

All My Love, Alec Brock is a 2020 young adult novel and the debut book by French-Brazilian author Larissa Lopes. The story is a pop star romance with a mystery twist, based on the author's own experience with catfishing and the dangers of the internet. The teen pop star Alec Brock was inspired by the music and fandom of Harry Styles, Shawn Mendes, and Brad Simpson (from The Vamps). Larissa's writing was also inspired by the four members of 5 Seconds Of Summer.
Synopsis
Sixteen-year-old Linda González only wants one thing in life: to be with her boyfriend Alec Brock. They’ve been communicating online for over a year now, but haven’t gotten the chance to meet yet. Partially because of the distance (he lives in LA, she lives with her mom in West Virginia), but also due to Alec’s busy lifestyle as an international teen pop star. So when Linda learns that her father is being transferred from San Francisco to LA, she sees it as an opportunity to close the gap in her long distance relationship with Alec and doesn’t think twice before asking to move in with her dad. But, to Linda's total shock, when she finally surprises Alec in LA, he doesn’t recognize her.
Alec realizes his fan is in trouble though, so he offers his help to find the catfish who played with her heart. And suddenly, Linda is torn between chasing the truth about “the guy she fell in love with,” or trying to win the heart of “the guy he was supposed to be.”
Inspiration
The book was written as part of a public 365 Days Challenge in 2017, that also inspired the author to start The Best Version Of Myself Movement.
Victim of catfishing at the age of 16, Larissa spent years battling depression before fictionalizing her tragedy. Her "real Alec Brock" was in a famous boy band in Bazil back in 2005, and she met him a couple of times on her journey in search of the truth. But she never found out who the impostor was, so writing was her way to overcome what happen and create her own denouement for a mystery she's only able to solve in fiction.
Sequel
All My Love, Alec Brock is the first installment of The Alec Brock Series.
The book was featured on the Amazon Hot New Releases list after The Vamps guitarist James McVey showed his support to the author on Instagram, and the sequel titled No More Lies, Alec Brock was announced by the publisher for publication in September, 2020.
