Alice Barnes

Alice Barnes (1907-2003) was an American social worker and political activist for labor and women's issues in San Diego, California. Barnes organized boycotts and protests for the United Farm Workers and the American Indian Movement. In 1978, at the age of 71, she participated in the The Longest Walk from Alcatraz to Washington D.C. In 1979, with the influence of Cesar Chavez, Barnes organized the United Domestic Workers to represent California home care providers. Chavez said Barnes was "a beautiful example, for all generations, of what it means to share life with others."
