Alia Novack

Alia Novack is a fictional character from the science fiction drama Quantum Leap, played by actress Renee Coleman. She, like the protagonist, Dr. Sam Beckett, was a time traveller, albeit a leaper from the Evil Project. She first appeared in Episode 506 of Quantum Leap "Deliver Us From Evil" and later in the episodes "Return of the Evil Leaper" and "Revenge of the Evil Leaper."

If Sam Beckett was able to travel in time, it would seem to be possible that some other person could do the same. Alia told Sam that she was part of a time travel experiment, and she also suffered from Swiss Cheese memory, where she had no control over where she went. Like Sam, all she wanted to do was go home.

When she met with Sam again, Alia said she had been tortured and that the experience was worse than death. She begged Sam not to let her go through that kind of pain again, and Sam suggested that if they were to hold each other when they leaped, they might be able to go together. They did, right into Mallard Correctional Facility Prison for women. In an attempt to keep the Evil Project computer "Lothos" from locking onto her brainwaves, Sam altered them by slightly hypnotizing her into believing she was the woman into whom she had leaped.

While Alia did not seem to be completely evil, she did not understand why some people would help other people. Such behavior was either not in her background or had been conditioned out by some means. In the television series, Alia was last seen leaping out, presumably on her own and away from the Evil Project, in the final moments of "Revenge."
