Alfred Makotsi

Alfred Makotsi (born 30 July 1993) is a former Director Academics of the Student Organization of Maseno University and the Chairperson for the Kakamega County University Students Organization. He has served as the Secretary General of the Kakamega County Youth League, represented Kakamega County Youth in the 17th Youth Summit of the iEARN International Conference from 1 July 2013 to 6 July 2013 in Doha, Qatar, and also attended the International Youth Conference 2013 conducted from 10-11 August 2013.
Early life
Makotsi went to Mewa Academy, Bukhulunya Primary School, and Friends School Kamusinga before being admitted to Maseno University, where he is still pursuing a bachelor's degree in political science with information technology.
Politics
On January 2012, he was elected as the Secretary General of the Kakamega County Youth League serving until January 2013. In the Kakamega County Youth League 2013 elections, he contested for the position of Chairperson and he was declared the winner as an unopposed candidate. Year 2014, he resigned as the Chairperson of the Kakamega County Youth League and declared he was not going to contest for any position in the organization following his appointment as the Interim Chairperson of the inaugural Kakamega County University Students Association by Kakamega County Senator, Bonny Khalwale. He has held several other positions which include that of Director Academics Affairs of the Students Organization of Maseno University. Makotsi actively participated in organisation of funds-drives to set up projects on self-help basis and has been offering aid to the local people. He has mobilised women and the youth to initiate income generating projects. With his political star shining bright, many see him as the next big thing in Western Kenya Politics.
Philanthropic activities
Alfred Makotsi has participated in charity services through his organization, the Alfred Makotsi Foundation, from where he has managed to assist Kenyan primary and high school students. Through his foundation, he has also supported poor families with no source of income by supporting them financially through his micro-financing programs.
Student leadership
In 2014, he participated in the Maseno University Students' Organization as an aspirant for the position of President where he was viewed by many as the most favorite candidate to win. However, the elections were marred with violence initiated by the former SOMU President Charles Juma and the elections were aborted.
Alfred Makotsi was ranked 20 among the top 100 most influential students in Kenya by kenyayote a reputable university ranking company in Kenya.
In October 2013, Alfred Makotsi was elected by the students of Maseno University as the Director Academics of the Student Organization of Maseno University with a landslide win after garnering 1,127 votes against his main contender Koech Elisha, who got 887 votes.

Elistone Macharia, who was also vying, came third with 830 votes followed by James Amokola with 722 votes and then Wanjala Benard with 89 votes at a distant fourth and fifth place respectively.
In the 2014 SOMU elections, Alfred Makotsi vied for the position of SOMU president and was seen as a favourite. However, the elections were nullified following a disruption that lead to the destruction of ballot boxes and papers.
