Alexandra Ares (born as Alexandra Grigorescu, Bucharest) is a bilingual Romanian American writer living in New York City. She is a columnist and editor of Manhattan Chronicles, novelist, playwright, screenwriter, TV producer/director and a former theater critic for print and television. Life Alexandra was born during the regime of , to a prolific playwright and poet father (Dinu Grigorescu) who later became the deputy Governor of Bucharest and Special Adviser to the Prime Minister of Romania, and a French teacher mother (Despina Grigorescu). After the fall of communism Alexandra enrolled at the Faculty of Theater and Drama in Bucharest (UNATC) where she received both her undergraduate degree and her PhD in 2007 while also working in TV. She was editor and scorer of TVR Theater before moving to New York in 1998 and changing her last name to Ares, through marriage. She become an American citizen in 2004, after a career including being a foreign correspondent for Romanian TV and a producer/writer for CBS. She is a member of the Writers Union of Romania and of Dramatist Guild of America, and publisher of www.ManhattanChronicles.com. She currently works as a communications consultant in the UN system.
