Alex Hammer

Alex Hammer, business owner, political author and 2006 and 2010 candidate for Governor of Maine.
Family and early life
Alex was born August 29, 1965 in Bangor, Maine, the second of five siblings to Max and Clara Hammer. His father, 78, was a Professor of Psychology at the University of Maine and his mother, 72, was primarily a homemaker and possesses two Master's degrees. Alex Hammer has four siblings Barry, Estelle, Brad and David.
Alex graduated from Orono High School in 1983. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1988. While at the University of Maine Alex was a USAA National Scholar, and was an All-America East Conference athlete (track) among other honors. In 1992 Alex received a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia.
Political life
Alex was a candidate for Governor of Maine in 2006 as an Independent. His 2006 Campaign rasied a total of $420.00 . Alex published Op-Eds in Maine newspapers (Bangor Daily News, Lewiston Sun Journal, Ellsworth American, Mainebiz) and was a political columnist for Magic City Morning Star. He also had media interviews on leading Maine news and talk programs including WLOB with Ray Richardson, WVOM with Ric Tyler and George Hale and CNN1240 in Lewiston.
Alex is currently running for Governor of Maine for 2010, as an Independent.
Author
In 2008 Alex published "This Great State - A Rigorous Examination of Leadership in Maine - Present, Past and Future" . The book examines policy issues in Maine with a heavy focus on economic and economic development issues.
