Alex Del Barrio

Alex Del Barrio is an American professional sports play-by-play announcer, radio host and television reporter and is former television sports anchor. Del Barrio grew up in the Mission, TX part of the Rio Grande Valley. Del Barrio is a 2001 graduate of Mission High School. He graduated from the University of Texas-Pan American after beginning his collegiate career at Boston University's College of Communication.
Del Barrio is currently the play-by-play announcer about to begin his fourth season with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League (NBADL). The Vipers are the D-league affiliate of the Houston Rockets (NBA). Del Barrio had the chance to call the every moment of the 2010 NBA D-League playoffs including the game winning shot by Craig Winder that earned the Vipers their first NBA Development League Championship. Del Barrio was also the team's Director of Basketball Operations for the 2009-10 season.
Del Barrio is also currently a reporter for KGBT Action 4 News's coverage of Rio Grande Valley high school football. He also lends his play-by-play talents to 956Sports's live streaming coverage of the Thursday Night High School Game of the Week.
Previously Del Barrio broadcast baseball for the original Edinburg Roadrunners of the now defunct Central Baseball League for the 2004 and 2005 seasons. He returned to the baseball press box to be the voice of the Edinburg Coyotes (ULB) for the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Del Barrio was also the United League's All-Star Game broadcaster in 2006 and was the Director of Player Personnel and Media Relations for the 2007 season. Del Barrio also spent two seasons as the "Voice of the Broncs" for the University of Texas-Pan American. He has also been used as a fill in play-by-play announcer and television color commentator for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees Central Hockey League and home radio voice for the now defunct Rio Grande Valley Dorados AF2.
Del Barrio started his career while in college at WTBU. Del Barrio was a member of the sports staff that covered BU athletics. Alex was the un-official voice of BU Men's soccer where he had the honor of making the game-winning goal call for Boston University in the 2004 NCAA men's soccer tournament. Alex also called men's ice hockey, women's lacrosse and softball for WTBU and served as a member of the studio crew for games of all sports.
Del Barrio moved from radio to television in 2006 when he began his first tour of duty with KGBT-TV as a high school football reporter. Del Barrio spent two seasons roaming the sidelines for Action 4 Sports. Del Barrio moved from the field to the desk in 2008 when he joined XHRIO-TV and the FOX 2 News at Nine as their sports anchor and sports director. Del Barrio's last sportscast for FOX 2 News was in July of 2010.
