Alex Bellini

Alex Bellini is an Italian adventurer.
Personal life
He was born in a small village in Valtellina called Aprica, in Northern Italy.
Extreme marathons
In 2000 he ran the New York City Marathon in 3 hours and 52 minutes.
Between 2000 and 2001 he participated in some of the most extreme marathons in the world, including the Marathon des sables: 240 km in the Sahara desert. This marathon is ranked by the Discovery Channel as the toughest footrace on earth.
In 2002 he ran the Alaska ultrasport extreme: 350 miles across frozen landscapes.
In 2003 he was back in Alaska for the Alaska ultrasport impossible: 1400 km in 27 days, self-supported, ranking 5th overall.
The oceans
In 2006 he completed his crossing of the Mediterrenean Sea and of the Atlantic Ocean solo, on a rowing boat.
In 2008 he began his journey to across the Pacific Ocean too, from Perù to Australia, in 10 months. On the 12th of October 2008, with only 65 miles left to reach the Australian coast, he decided to interrupt the crossing because of the extremely difficult meteorological conditions.
LA-NY and new adventures
In 2011 Bellini ran the 5,000 kilometre LA-NY footrace, crossing the United States from Los Angeles to New York. After seventy days spent running, without a day off, only eight people of the eighteen that started finish the race, with Bellini coming in fifth. He completed the marathon in 746 hours 28 minutes and 49 seconds.
He recently said to the media that he will soon leave to spend twelve months on a melting iceberg to raise awareness about the reality of climate change.
Bellini is also professional speaker and performance consultant, creating The 5th Element Ltd, a company specialising in performance consulting, keynote and motivational speaking.
