Alex Angarita

Alex Angarita (born April 20, 1978 in Colombia) is the 13th person to be voted out on the reality television series Survivor: Fiji. He works as an attorney in Downey, California.

Pre-Survivor
Angarita was born in Colombia, South America and moved to California with his family at the age of six. Although he was unable to speak one word of English at the time, Angarita was skipped a grade in school and continued to excel in academics. As a warm up to SURVIVOR: FIJI, he participated on the CBS game show "Kid Quiz" while in middle school, leading his team to the finals. Angarita graduated from Warren High School in Downey, California in 1995. After graduating from high school,he started his college career as a pre-med student in the University of California, Irvine. Because he wasted no opportunity to make the most of his college experience, Angarita altered a full pre-med course load for becoming a certified E.M.T., and for conducting research in Quantum Mechanics. He also became involved in volunteer work, and as a member in Greek fraternity system.

Angarita also guaranteed his undergraduate education by teaching test preparation courses and tutoring nearly full time. He worked as a teacher and the director of High School Programs in the Princeton Review Company. Upon graduating from U.C. Irvine with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Minor in Psychology in 1999, Angarita served as an operations director for O\'Melveny Myers, a national test preparation company. He then moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he received his Juris Doctor Degree from Harvard Law School. While at Harvard, Angarita was a member of the Harvard Boxing Club.

Upon graduating from law school in 2003, Angarita worked as a corporate attorney for one of the largest law firms in Los Angeles, where he represented companies in mergers and acquisitions, outsourcing and various large-scale transactions. Angarita reconsidered his career path as an attorney after he suffered a back injury from a car accident in 2006. Always ready to face a challenge head on, Angarita trained for months to regain the strength in his back and climbed Mt. Whitney. Two weeks later, he quit his law firm job, mastered the Graduate Management Admissions Test and applied to one of America's top business schools. A month later, Angarita was on a plane to participate in SURVIVOR: FIJI .

Survivor: Fiji
Alex Angarita appeared in the reality television series Survivor: Fiji, and finished seventh. He appeared on the jury at the end of the season and voted for Earl Cole to win the game and one million dollars.

Angarita was originally part of the Moto tribe, and won several number of challenges in both Reward and Immunity challenges. When the Ravu tribe became outnumbered which led to the drastic change of the game, Angarita eventually switched to the Ravu tribe, along with Edgardo, Dreamz, Mookie, Rocky, and Anthony (Lisi joined their tribe after Anthony was voted out). Angarita made an alliance with Edgardo and Mookie, and later with Dreamz as the Four Horsemen. His alliance also became involved in a plot of figuring out that Earl (winner of Survivor: Fiji) must have the other hidden Immunity Idol and planned to vote off him. However, when Dreamz told Earl, as well as Cassandra and Yau-Man, that Mookie had found an Immunity Idol. Initially, the group of Earl, Yau-Man, Cassandra, Stacy, Boo, and Dre decided to target Angarita as a threat. Being threatened, Angarita decided to ask Mookie, and to discretely give him the hidden Immunity Idol for protection at Tribal Council. At Tribal Council in Episode 10, he played for the hidden Immunity Idol, but Edgardo, his fellow member of Four Horsemen, was eventually voted off by the leading alliance of Earl. Even though Edgardo was voted off and the Four Horsemen collapsed, Angarita, together with Mookie, continued their mission of searching the hidden Immunity Idol, especially on Yau-Man's personal belongings where the hidden Immunity Idol was found.

After Mookie was voted out on Episode 11, Angarita went into self-declared "ninja" mode trying to stay out of everybody's way and just observed the others looking for possible ways to continue in the game. At the Immunity Challenge on Episode 12, Angarita joined with Dreamz and Boo whose advantage turned out to be a free pass to the final round of the challenge. However, Boo subdued Angarita and Dreamz for the Individual Immunity. With Boo winning immunity, Angarita tried to convince Cassandra, Dre, and Earl that now was the time to vote out Yau-Man. However, his efforts were badly strategized and he was voted out by 6-1.

Post-Survivor
Angarita acknowledged his experience on SURVIVOR: FIJI with his decision to forego attending business school and pursue his passion for teaching and helping others, especially to those who were involved in racist issues. Angarita and his brother have since founded an online academic consulting company, Eventus Academic Consultants providing admissions services to college and graduate school applicants.

As an immigrant from Colombia, Angarita has renewed his commitment to education in underprivileged communities and now serves as a board member of Scholarships for Scholars, a charity organization providing scholarships to immigrants. Angarita also works with various other charitable organizations and often speaks at schools on admissions and standardized test preparation. He also uses his personal story as an example to motivate students in underprivileged communities to obtain a higher education.
