Alan Milliner

Alan Milliner (born in 1983) is a retired Australian referee and former player who was a listed international football referee from 2014 to 2017.
Early career
Milliner was a football player when he was young and played for several seasons in the local youth football league in Brisbane. At the age of 20, he decided to stop playing football and concentrate on football refereeing. He was promoted very quickly.
Refereeing career
In the 16th round of the 2009-10 Australian Professional Football League, he officiated the match between the Brisbane Roar and Wellington Phoenix, as the Brisbane Roar won 4-1 at the Brisbane Stadium, whereas it was his first Australian Professional Football League game as a referee.
In the 8th round of the 2013 Chinese Super League match between Shanghai Shenxin and Shandong Luneng, Milliner was invited by the Chinese Football Association to serve as the referee in that match.
Milliner was appointed as an international referee in 9 January 2014.
He was officially summoned on 17 November 2015 at his only 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification held in Russia and the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualification in the United Arab Emirates in a match between Timor-Leste and Saudi Arabia.
On 19 November 2016, in a Hyundai A-League match between Brisbane Roar and Sydney FC, Milliner had controversially gave 3 yellow cards to Sydney FC player Rhyan Grant, similarly to the English referee Graham Poll, giving 3 yellow cards to Croatian player in a match against Australia during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, compared by the Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi. At the 77th minute mark, a second yellow card was shown, and the Brisbane Roar demanded Grant’s ejection, but Milliner did not remove him. Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold acknowledged the second yellow card, and agreed that Grant should have been sent off.
On 13 February 2017, Milliner sparked another controversy in the between the Brisbane Roar and the Melbourne Victory FC. Brisbane Roar player, Brandon Borrello, scored his first goal came close to Josh Rose, but was not touched. However, Milliner, standing a meter away awarded Brisbane Roar a penalty. The match eventually ended in a 2-2 draw.
Milliner officially announced his retirement as a referee on 11 May 2017.<ref name="auto"/>
