Akbar Abdullayev is the son of Tamara Sabirova, sister to Tatyana Karimova, the wife of Islam Karimov, the of Uzbekistan. He is the de-facto head of the Fergana region of Uzbekistan where he controls over 70 per cent of the region’s economy as well as decides the personnel policy. Politics Uzbekistan presidency Because Karimov's eldest daughter Gulnara Karimova was publicly cited as "the most hated person in the country" and has displeased her father due to her appearance and life in fashion, she is unlikely to succeed Karimov. Karimov's youngest daughter Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva has opted to distance herself from the world of politics, instead opting to hold the role as Uzbekistan's representative in UNESCO. With both daughters unlikely/unwilling to succeed their father, it is Akbar Abdullayev's connection to the president (through his mother) Tamara Sabirova that affords him this opportunity.
