Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode

Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode is a Nigerian legal practitioner, business consultant, development specialist, international NGO expert and human rights activist, specializing in women and girls initiatives. She is a highly sought after speaker and advisor on social impact and corporate social responsibility, with a deep expertise in Africa.
In 2001, she founded the Murtala Muhammed Foundation, a non-governmental political advocacy organization dedicated to engendering socio economic changes in honour of her late father and former Head of State, Gen. Murtala Muhammed. She has several years’ practical experience in corporate and litigation matters having worked in an international law firm in her earlier career. She has served in prestigious banks and other financial institutions in Europe and the United States, gaining specialist expertise in new ventures, business re-engineering, management, operation audits and financial linkages. She has well developed business advisory skills gained from her diverse work experiences.
Early Life and Family
Muhammed-Oyebode was born in Lagos to the family of late General Murtala Muhammed and Ajoke Muhammed. Gen. Muhammed was Nigeria’s head of state in 1975 until his assassination in a failed coup in 1976. Her mother, Ajoke Muhammed, a dental therapist by profession, is an active environmental sustainability and preservation crusader and is currently the vice chairman of the Murtala Muhammed Foundation.
Muhammed-Oyebode was raised partly in Lagos were she attended Queen's College, Lagos before proceeding to Queen Anne's School, U.K for her A-level and subsequently the University of Buckingham, U.K. where she obtained an LL.B (Hons) Degree. She has a Master’s degree in Public and International Law from King's College London (University Of London), U.K. She attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989. As an experienced business consultant she went ahead to obtain an MBA in Finance from the Imperial College London (University Of London).
She is currently the Group CEO of Asset Management Group Limited, and the CEO of The Murtala Muhammed Foundation which she founded. She also sits on the boards of various other organisations.
Asset Management Group Limited (AMG)
In 1991, Muhammed-Oyebode founded Asset Management Group, Ltd, AMG a Nigerian-based consultancy firm which provides both financial, business and project advisory services focused on the entire real estate development value chain, ranging from land acquisition to concept development to property management services. She has in various capacities including her current role as the Group Chief Executive Officer led the organisation to become a client driven, award winning, International property, real estate development and management company with a reputation for delivering landmark projects.
Murtala Muhammed Foundation (MMF)
Muhammed-Oyebode founded the Murtala Muhammed foundation in memory of her father and to keep his legacies which stood strong during his time as Head of State. The Nigerian-based non-governmental organization is dedicated to engendering socioeconomic change through encouraging discourse and debate on issues pertinent to Africa’s development and programs specially focused on citizens, women empowerment, with specific emphasis on medium term disaster relief and management, healthcare development, education, gender based violence, child rights and household food security. With several partnerships across the world, the Murtala Muhammed Foundation has grown effectively to an authority in its thematic areas.
In the 2011, the MMF scheduled a public conference called "Public Policy and Governance; 2011 and Beyond: Policy Dialogue with Presidential Candidates" which allowed the public to "deeply engage the candidates."
MMFset up the Crisis and Trauma Counselling Centre (CTCC), which is the first center to treat PTSD in Nigeria.
Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG)
In the wake of the rise in insurgency and the kidnap of over 200 girls from their hostel by Boko haram terrorists on April 14, 2014 in Chibok community, North East, Nigeria, Muhammed-Oyebode has been actively involved in advocating for the release of the kidnapped girls.
She leads the Lagos chapter of the movement geared towards sensitizing and galvanizing the Nigerian Government, concerned and well-meaning citizens towards speedily doing everything possible to rescue the Girls and returning them safely to their families and friends. MMF has worked with the Office of the National Security Advisor (ONSA) to expand PTSD treament, especially in response to individuals who have PTSD because of Boko Haram terrorism. House of Odin-owners of BoConcept Nigeria Ltd, Adunmadan Ltd,(A luxury retail store) Cambridge Growth Partners, House of Zuliyana - Owners of Pandora Stores in Nigeria and Murtala Muhammed Memorial Botanical Gardens where she serves as a trustee & Member of Governing Council.
Her wealth of experience spans several organizations and associations; Muhammed-Oyebode is a recipient of several awards including the award for Excellence for the advancement of Special Needs Education in Lagos State, State Justice of the Peace, Zonta International Inspirational Award for Commitment to the underprivileged in Society, African Leadership Academy Award for developing the next generation of African Leaders, Patrick Speech Centre award for contributing towards the awareness and support of Autism in Nigeria amongst others. She is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Member of the Nigerian Bar Association.
