Agroterra

Agroterra is an agricultural internet platform that allows farmers and agrobusinesses to publicise and sell their goods and services without intermediary costs. It currently runs two websites, agroterra.com, in Spanish, and agroterra.co.uk, its UK counterpart.
History
The company was founded by Juan Martínez Climent in 1999, an agronomic engineer from Valencia, Spain.
By the end of 2009, Agroterra's website was receiving over 650 thousand visits a month and had over 65 thousand registered suppliers. In early 2010, visits were growing at 2.7% a month or 37% a year.
2010 also marked a breakthrough for the company because it launched the UK version of the site, agroterra.co.uk. The company also launched German (agroterra.de) and French (agroterra.eu) versions of the site in 2010.
In September 2010, the CEO, Juan Martínez Climent, and UK Country Manager, Mike Lee, spoke before the European Commissioner, Mrs Joanna Drake, at the Brussels Google Office about the company's past and its plans for the future. The company was selected to speak as an example of a successful web-based SME in the European Union.
Current investors are Marek Fodor (Atrapalo, Kantox) and Lluis Faus ().
Services
Agroterra offers to grow businesses through top search engine positioning, high product and search page volume and high visibility of companies and products to users. Basic services include listing of up to five products and inclusion in listings, while Premium services allow suppliers to publish more products, which have greater visibility and give suppliers more sophisticated marketing and selling tools.
Commercial and private sellers of any kind of agro-product or service can therefore publicise and sell to the growing 3.9 million unique annual visitors. Suppliers advertise their products and publish their contact details. They control their own information. Agroterra helps them develop their businesses. It offers a range of over 40 thousand products, organised into 19 categories and 240 subcategories.
Meanwhile buyers search for products and when they find what they are looking for, they contact the suppliers directly. Agroterra does not take part in the transaction, but simply introduces buyers to suppliers. To sell products on Agroterra one must sign up.
