Aggressive secularist is a blog by Jaime Hyland which focuses on separation of church and state, religion in Ireland and atheism. Blog name The name is ironic use of a phrase used by former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern in a speech on March 26 2007. Taoiseach Ahern later used the same phrase in the Dáil: Blog topics The denominational nature of many schools in the Republic of Ireland is a theme on the blog. Jaime has cited a survey stating that between 49.6% to 61% of the Irish population preferred nondenominational or interdenominational education in a country where 92% of the schools are owned by the Catholic Church. David Quinn and John Waters have been criticised, as has the Iona Institute. |
