aewm is a minimal X window manager written in C for Linux and other Unix-like systems. One of its goals is to be a good, basic implementation of the ICCCM and EWMH specifications. The standard distribution includes a taskbar which, together with the window manager, comprises an extremely bare bones implementation of a Windows 95-esque desktop environment. According to the aewm home page, aewm is written all-lowercase, but stands for "An Exiguous Window Manager". Features Features of the aewm window manager include: * Stacking windows * Configurable root menu * Support for plugin modules * Titlebar has a close button * Program launch via aemenu * Written in C * No multiple desktop support * No theme support * Requires a 3 button mouse * sloppyfocus Modules The aewm window manager can utilize the following plugin modules: * aemenu * aepanel * aesession * aedesk Derivatives Because of its learnable EWMH and ICCCM code, aewm has also served as the starting point for a large number of popular window managers for X.
