Adrian Harrington

Adrian Harrington (born 4 October 1979 in Dublin, Ireland) is a scientist and healthcare communications specialist. Best known for his role in elucidating the three-dimensional structure of the protein follistatin, he also made major contributions to research in the structural biology of the interleukin-5 receptor system and designed a system for producing recombinant proteins tagged with the coiled-coil motif while a postdoctoral fellow at Drexel University College of Medicine. Now based in London, he is a lead author on HealthPRO, the healthcare blog from AxiCom, a healthcare and technology public relations consultancy. Major clients include Picis, a provider of IT systems for perioperative areas of hospitals, Eisai, a Japanese pharmaceutical company specialising in neurological treatments, and Intelligent Energy, a UK-based hydrogen fuel cell company.

Education and early accomplishments
Harrington is a past pupil of Belvedere College, a fee-paying secondary school in the centre of Dublin run by the Jesuit order of Catholic priests, graduating in 1997. He attended Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he read Natural Sciences, graduating in 2001. After working under Prof Sir Tom Blundell at the Department of Biochemistry, he began work on his PhD. While a student, Harrington cultivated a range of sporting interests, and served as captain of the University Gaelic Athletic club for 5 years. He also served a term as chairman of the Cambridge University Scottish & Irish Society.
