Adesayo Oyedijo

Professor Isaac Adesayo Oyedijo (B.Sc., M.Sc., MBA, Ph.D., MCIA, ANITD, FISMN, PMIABE, FSM, FIBS, IABE) (born 21 April 1957) was a renowned Nigerian scholar and a Professor of Business Administration and Strategic Management. He was the Dean of The Faculty of Management Sciences, and a member of Senate at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos, Nigeria.
Before joining Lagos State University as a senior lecturer in 2003, he was a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration at Olabisi Onabanjo University (Ogun State University- OOU) Ago-Iwoye from 1987. He was also the Head of Department and Coordinator of the University's MBA programme from 1996-2002.
Early Life and Education
Oyedijo was born in Ada, Osun State to the family of Chief Abraham Adisa Oyedijo (Alade of Ada - Alade's Compound) and Princess Dorcas Oyepeju Oyedijo nee Olabiyi) of Oba's Compound, Ada, Osun State. He attended St Andrews Anglican Primary School in Ada where he obtained his first leaving school certificate between 1963-1969. He then proceeded to Ada Commercial Secondary Grammar School for his Secondary education between 1970-1974 under the tutelage of Venerable J.O. Ojo of blessed memory. He worked briefly as a classroom teacher after his Secondary Education at Saint Anthony's Primary School, Okuko, Osun State in 1975. The same year, he was admitted to The Polytechnic, Ibadan for his Advanced Level Certificate. In 1976, he was admitted to the University of Lagos (Unilag) where he studied BSc Sociology and graduated in 1979. After his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), he went back to University of Lagos for his Master's Degree in Sociology and completed in 1981. He obtained a Diploma in Computer Studies from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in 1994.
After his MSc degree in 1981, he worked briefly as a personnel manager at AG Leventis Plc. In 1985, Oyedijo went to Obafemi Awolowo University where he obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree and completed in 1987. He joined Ogun State University now Olabisi Onabanjo University as a Lecturer II in 1987. Whilst working as a lecturer, he went back to Obafemi Awolowo University for his Doctor of Philosophy degree which he started in 1991. In 1998, he completed his Doctorate in Business Administration with specialization in Strategic Management and Business Policy.
Academic Career
Ade Oyedijo was a lecturer at Olabisi Onabanjo University from 1987 to 2003. He became the Head of Department and Coordinator of the University's Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme from 1996 to 2002. In 2003, he joined Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos as a Senior Lecturer in Business Administration. While he was at LASU, he served the University at different levels. He was the head of the Business Administration Subject Group and later became the Head of Department of Business Administration and Management Technology. In 2012, Oyedijo was promoted to the rank of full professor and became the Dean of Faculty of Management Sciences in 2014 under the administration of Professor John Obafunwa the former Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University. Ade Oyedijo was also an external assessor for academic staff appointment/promotion (Including professorial level appointment and promotion), external examiner for M.Sc./MBA/Ph.D., and adjunct/visiting professor at various universities across Nigeria such as Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Lagos, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, University of Ilorin, University of Jos, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ekiti State University, Osun State University, Covenant University, Crawford University, Redeemers University, Adekunle Ajasin University, , Ebonyi State University, Caleb University, Wesley University of Science and Technology, University of Maiduguri, Osun State Polytechnic, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Lagos State Polytechnic, etc. Professor Oyedijo received various medals, honours, and awards for his excellent contribution to teaching, research, and consultancy in Nigeria. He was a regular contributor of articles to reputable local and international journals. He attended and presented academic, technical and professional papers at many conferences in different parts of the world such as Zurich (Switzerland), Mexico City (Mexico), London (United Kingdom), Sydney (Australia), Barcelona (Spain), and Paris (France).Ade Oyedijo was also involved in various research training and manpower consultancy and developmental projects with various public and private sector organizations in Nigeria as a team leader or key team member including the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) in the Presidency of Nigeria, Center for Corporate Planning and Strategic Management (CCPS), Union Bank of Nigeria, National Assembly Service Commission, Nigerian Ports Authority, WAPCO Cement Plc, Leadway Assurance Ltd, BOC Gases Nigeria Plc, Delta Glass Plc, Texaco Plc, LARFARGE Cement, Total, Lagos City Mega Project, MicCom Cables and Wires Ltd, Micro Finance Banks in Osun State, Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Osun State Government, and many more.
Professor Ade Oyedijo established the Institute of Business Strategy (IBS), a professional and educational body with the purpose of developing and promoting corporate planning and business strategy education in Nigeria. He ran the institution closely with his long time business partner Engineer Seyi Fakolade (MBA) and many top academics in the field of Management and Strategy in Nigeria such as Late Professor O.Y. Oyeneye, Professor P. E. Oribabor, Professor P. O. Oladele, Dr. G. Onakoya, Professor O. Jackson, Mrs. U. O. Azubuike, and Dr. M. B. Lawal who all served as members of the board of trustees. The institute runs an induction workshop for its associate and full members yearly and is based in Lagos, Nigeria. The institute is also growing rapidly and still expanding its market base in Nigeria.
He published journal articles and wrote books on Strategic Management, Business Policy, Organizational Theory, Organizational Behaviour, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and Management Theory. Professor Ade Oyedijo taught many undergraduate and postgraduate courses including those in B.Sc., M.Sc., Postgraduate Diploma, MBA, M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Marketing and Public Administration among others. He also supervised several Undergraduate, Postgraduate Diploma projects, M.Sc., MBA, and Ph.D. projects.

As evidence of Professor Oyedijo's knowledge, mentorship and drive to impact lives, he produced close to ten Ph.D holders within the period he joined the service of Lagos State University. * As former Head of Department of Business Administration and Coordinator of the M.Sc. & MPhil/Ph.D. programmes in the Department of Business Administration and Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences and Coordinator of the MBA programme, Ade Oyedijo led the Department and the Faculty to secure Full Accreditation Status for these post-graduate programmes as well as the Master of Human Resource Management programme in the Department of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management of the Faculty when the National Universities Commission (NUC) assessed the programmes for the purpose of accreditation in 2014 and 2015.
* As Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Ade Oyedijo led the team that founded and launched the Lagos State University (LASU) Journal of Management Sciences, the very first of its kind in the history of the faculty. Professor Ade Oyedijo was also the pioneer editor of the Journal.
* Under the leadership of Ade Oyedijo as Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences of Lagos State University, new postgraduate programmes were proposed and got to the final stage of approval by the Senate of the University.

Political Career
Oyedijo went into politics for a few years and became the Caretaker Chairman of Boripe Local Government area of Osun State under the administration of Olagunsoye Oyinlola the former Governor of Osun State headquartered in the town of Iragbiji. He was in office under the People's Democratic Party (PDP). While he was Local Government Chairman, he was involved in various projects that developed and restructured his local government area such as building hospitals, schools, roads, bridges, healthcare service and facilities, programmes for vulnerable children and adults and many more. As wife of the chairman, Mrs Comfort Oyedijo led and was involved in several projects that helped and developed women, widows, disabled children and adults, aged members of the community etc. Ade Oyedijo impacted lives positively during his tenure and his outstanding record in as a leader is still spoken about today. He was also a member of Osun State Economic Empowerment and Development Committee in 2007. He left politics completely in 2008 and returned to the Academia.
Death
Professor Ade Oyedijo was a Senior Management Staff, Member of the Senate, and Dean of the most populous Faculty at Lagos State University, the position he occupied until his sudden death. Oyedijo died on 11 January 2016 from Cardiac Arrest. He was driving back home from work when he suddenly experienced breathing difficulty. He pulled over to sought for help and was rushed to Hospital where he passed away. Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University and the whole University commiserated with the family of the senior management staff and special sessions were held to honour the great and popular icon and one of the greatest academics from Nigeria. Oyedijo died at 59 and survived by his wife Mrs. Comfort Modupeola Oyedijo, and his children. At the ceremony held for Guru at Lagos State University on 21 January 2016, Mrs Comfort Modupeola Oyedijo stated in her speech to the University that he lived a blessed, fulfilled and impactful life.
