It was one of the first Flash game portals, and it helped popularize both the Flash platform and casual games. AddictingGames.com was acquired by Atom Shockwave and subsequently Viacom in 2007. Today it is part of the MTV Online Network, receiving over 10 million visitors a month. Recently, AddictingGames had an AddictingGames Showdown on Nickelodeon when people voted for the best games.
Some game categories include shooting,action,sports,and much more.
Some of the games may be "edgy or offensive", so the site provides a "Game Advisory System".
AddictingGames was named the "Worst Toy of the Year" in Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood's 2010 TOADY Award competition. Parents and child health advocates voted the AddictingGames.com the worst toy of the year because of the violent and sexualized games it features, and because Nickelodeon was promoting this site to children as young as preschoolers.
History
Ira Willey started the site in 2002, seeing the potential in Internet flash games. He sold it in 2005. Addictinggames.com is now one of the most popular flash gaming websites in the United States.
